Considerations involved in the management of prairie preserves, 1949. The first woman to receive a doctorate from Iowa State College, Ada Hayden worked at the college as a botanist and curator of Iowa’s herbarium. Her work lead her to seek out Iowa’s vanishing remnant prairies and work to protect them. She is credited with permanently protecting several remnant prairies in Iowa including Hayden Prairie in Howard County.
