Introduction to Iowa's Limstone Kilns
A few miles north of Maquoketa, Iowa lies a ghost town that serves a major junction between the natural and human worlds. Hurstville, Iowa lies near the joining of the Maquoketa River’s North and South Forks. The town’s remnants characterize a shared geologic and human history. The two videos bring to life Ray Anderson’s words as they appear in Geologic Society of Iowa Guidebook #72 'The Natural History of Maquoketa Caves State Park Jackson County, Iowa'. This historic site is just off Highway 61 and is well worth a visit.
